What makes the Hacienda unique?
As our guest you will have FREE access to our Concierge service desk where we can book any adventure tour you could think of for as much as 20% less than if you booked it on your own.
We are also proud to offer in home catering or your personal chef. She is amazing. If you plan on using a chef or catering service, please check with us first as there are some that we do not allow on the property.
We offer a full complement of beach going supplies with ALL the toys to make your stay amazing. Kayaks, Stand up paddle boards (SUP's), boogie boards, masks, snorkels and all the beach stuff. Beach chairs, umbrellas, sand toys for the kids and beach towels.
We also rent our Honda 2-seater quads for a very affordable weekly rate. We also have our 5-seater 4X4 Polaris side by side.
I fell in love with this home because of what it meant to my father, it's unique centralized beach front location and proximity to all the amenities the village of Los Barriles has to offer. When you stay at Hacienda del Mar you will see his unique artworks hanging within the entire Villa.
Can we drink the water and eat fresh fruit and veggies?
Absolutely! Both Villa Tranquilo and Hacienda del Mar are equipped with the finest Ultraviolet, 3 stage, commercial water purification systems available.
The exact same system they use to make bottled water. Even the water in the pool, hose bibs and every faucet in the homes, all purified.
I have lived here for 43 years, and I have NEVER been sick from eating fruits or vegetables at home or in restaurants. 90% of fruits and vegetables are locally sourced, hence much less handling. However, we suggest washing everything before consuming.
Can we drink the water?

Should I rent a car at the airport?
Most of our guests like to save money and time by using our airport transfer service rather than having a rental car sit unused for a week or more.
Why unused? Other than coming and going there is no reason to even have a car. Everything is within walking distance. If you want to explore further, book a UTV or an ATV so you can also cruise the beaches, arroyos, and the breathtaking coastal road to other villages.
With the money you are saving by booking direct, it ends up being a free fun addition to your vacation!
How soon should I book the fun stuff?
Everything with the exception of the fishing charters should be reserved 6o days prior to arrival.
Since we only use the best available vendors, they definitely book up first. Pre-payment is required before I can secure your venue. There is a 100% refund if canceled prior to arrival.
I recommend reservations for fishing charters be made at the last minute to give me time to poor over wind and weather modules to insure a Safe and enjoyable day on the water.
Where is Hacienda del Mar?
Situated in Los Barriles, this vacation home is literally on the best white sand beach available in Los Barriles. Just around the corner is “downtown”, with sports bars, restaurants and shopping. ExotiKite Kiteboarding School 450 yards up the beach to the north. KB Kiteboarding 300 yards to the north. Vela windsurfing and kiteboarding school 150 yards to the south.

What makes Villa Tranquilo unique?
We designed this new Villa with our lifestyle in mind. We loved eating outdoors so we designed a giant outdoor ‘Palapa Great Room’. We strategically placed it on the south side of the main Villa so as to be protected from the winter north winds. Now you can enjoy outdoor living all year round. Additionally, we planned the master suite so it would have amazing views to the Sea of Cortez through the massive Palapa Room.
We are also strategically located between 2 pickle-ball resorts. One is actually within walking distance, only 150 yards to the south.
Why did I choose Hacienda del Mar?
Sadly, I inherited this property from my father who passed away in 2008. I made him visit Los Barriles in 1983 with my mom. I knew they would fall in love with the community, the beaches, and the Sea of Cortez. They loved it so much they began purchasing as much beach front property that was available. They first went in with 2 friends and built together on one lot. When they outgrew that situation, he purchased Hacienda del Mar which then was owned by one of the Bartels and James wine cooler founders. He proceeded to turn the 1,200 sq ft, 2 bedroom, 2 bath beach cottage into a 5,000 sq ft 4-bedroom 4 bath Hacienda.
He designed and contracted it himself using a forward thinking, green, recycled building product called ‘In-Steel Panels’. Extremely popular today for its earthquake strength, ER values, and it's constructed from renewable materials. He always referred to it as ‘his work of art’ which is why I have restored it to better than its original condition updating all cabinets, granite counters, unique hardwood doors, furnishings and custom amenities. I also added 2 new Casitas and an infinity pool with a giant spa. My sisters wanted to sell it, but I could not ‘let his work of art go’. Instead, I bought them out and now it is up to date and ready for your enjoyment.

Why did I choose Villa Tranquilo?
When I could finally afford to invest in Los Barriles in 1988 I purchased the last 2 beach front lots in the Village of Los Barriles. I knew I wanted to be in town and not north of the 2 big Arroyos due to flooding inaccessibility during hurricane season and unusable rocky beaches. The properties up north were way cheaper for a reason.
We completed our first home in 1993 then sold it in 2004 because the house was huge, and my kids and grandkids were busy with their lives, so no one was coming down. We only lasted 12 months before we were missing our Los Barriles. We got busy and designed the ‘Villa Tranquilo’ just for us. A 1,200 sq. ft wheelchair accessible, single level beauty with 2 suites and 2 baths, it was all we needed.
Almost 80% into completion, we decided to build out the entire property. We quickly designed the main house and got it going as well. The whole project, including landscaping, was done in 18 months! To us it’s not just a house or a home but a work of art.

Do you have minimum night requirements? Are there discounts for longer stays?
We have a 6 night minimum. 7+ nights receive a 14% discount. Guests staying over 28 days receive a 40% discount.
HOWEVER – Please carefully check the calendar as you may find a 4–5-day gap where we can slip you in!
Terms, Deposit, Balance Due
Our terms are a 30% deposit to secure your booking dates and the balance is not due until 60 days prior to arrival.
Refundable cleaning deposits are charged for each property, please see the booking page for property-specific deposit information.
Cancellation Policy – COVID-19
Dear future guests,
- We guarantee a 100% refund of any monies paid, less processing fees, if borders are closed entering or leaving Mexico, USA, or Canada.
- In addition, if anyone in your party becomes infected or there is a spike in cases here in Los Barriles, you will receive a 100% refund.
- If there are no airlines flying into Mexico, again, you will receive a 100% refund.
- Our standard cancellation policy when you book directly is 100% refund when canceled 120 prior to arrival for Hacienda del Mar, 90 days prior to arrival for Villa Tranquilo.
