When my father started building his “work of art” as he called it, I had already ended up in a wheelchair due to a roll-over car accident. He asked me to help him design a universally accessible home so I could come stay with him at any time, even though I had my own accessible home 300 yards up the beach.
He made 2 roll-in showers, one with a roll-under sink with all doors a minimum of 34” wide. There are no steps onto the property, but there are steps down to the beach. The entire home is one level.
When he passed away in 2008, he left the property to his 3 kids. Myself and 2 sisters. It stayed mostly vacant until after one of the most destructive hurricanes in the region’s hurricane history. Hurricane Odile September 2014.
It was so strong the winds sandblasted the paint off the walls and tore off the massive palapa roof over the outside kitchen and living room.
After getting bids to repair my father’s “work of art”, $212,000, my sisters said they did not have the money, so I bought them out.
Since then, all the damage has been repaired, and major additions and upgrades have been made including:
- 2 new Casitas, both with roll-in showers and roll-under sinks
- All new kitchen and bathroom cabinets
- All new granite/marble counters
- All new appliances and fixtures
- All new handcrafted “PARROTA” wood furniture locally sourced
- 100% UV three-stage water purification system
- 25 kw of solar panels for -0- utility bills
- A 15 kw back-up generator in case of a power failure
- A massive new beautiful infinity pool with a pool hoist into the spa or pool
- New outdoor furniture with a fire pit
- 2 new pickleball courts
- New high-speed Wi-Fi system
- All new flat-screen TV’s
- Access to a 4x4 power beach chair
- Access to a 5-seater 4x4 Polaris side-by-side with a ramp and hand controls
- Seamless airport transfers in our Dodge Ramp Van
- Wheelchair-accessible fishing boat, not fully accessible but we can get you safely on board for a day or half-day of fishing
