Wheelchair users paradise!
For people who need wheelchairs for ambulation, it is often difficult to find a vacation setting to suit their and their families and friends needs. Hacienda Del Mar in Los Barriles is just the place. The setting on the beach with an infinity spool is breathtaking and the living space of 5 bedrooms and several spaces to gather both inside and out were perfect for our group of 10 adults.
Other reviews have described all the wonders of this villa so I want to focus on how accessible it is. The rooms are huge and on one level, there is a hydraulic lift available to assist transfers and another one at the site of the pool. For adventurous types, I was blown away when a battery operated beach chair was delivered to our door. I did not go fishing, but I understand that there is an accessible fishing boat available too.
The staff, Josh and Natalia, were always available to answer questions and to assist in our plans. We had a wonderful cook, Tina, on 2 occasions when we wanted to stay in and enjoy the sunset – Tina was a marvel – she set and cleared the table, washed the dishes and prepared 3 course meals for us at a price less than 10 of us going to a restaurant. The small town is making an effort to accommodate persons in wheelchairs – there are lots of curb cuts and make shift ramps going into buildings (none would pass ADA approval, but they worked!). If you like a lot of action, this might not be the place for you but we were thrilled with the relaxing atmosphere–a welcome change from our hectic lives. i actually read 4 books in the week we were there.
